#TodayinPunjabiLegalHistory

As the third edition of the #TodayinLegalHistory series, the South Asian Legal History Association and the South Asian Canadian Access to Justice Association have launched #TodayinPunjabiLegalHistory earlier this year. The project was thought of in 2022 and shelved until recently. Mehak Gill is a Punjabi Sikh student at McMaster University and is currently completing her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Specialization in Public Law and Judicial Studies. After completing her undergraduate degree, she aspires to pursue law school. Mehak possesses a deep and unwavering enthusiasm for the field of law and is also deeply committed to the pursuit of justice. Mehak currently leads the Today in Punjabi Legal History project, in which she is able to demonstrate her passion for the law by researching different legal cases, legislation and legal events in relation to the global Punjabi community. The Today in Punjabi Legal History project started officially in 2023. Mehak looks forward to leading a team of pre-law and law students to document Punjabi legal history from all across the globe, including the community's wins, losses, and struggles. She looks forward to making Punjabi legal history accessible for people to learn about. Mehak will also assist in the Punjabi Access to Justice Project. Driven by a deep sense of empathy, she wishes to bridge the gap between the legal system and South Asian individuals, ensuring that their rights are protected, and their voices are heard. Through legal advocacy, community outreach, and collaboration, she strives to empower and educate the Punjabi community about their legal rights and provide them with the necessary resources to navigate the justice system with confidence and dignity.
